FACRAO

The charge of facrao is derived from the Latin word for face, which is facies. This charge is used in heraldry to refer to the human face, specifically the front view of the head. When used as a charge, facies is usually oriented so that the viewer is looking at the face head-on. The facial features are usually quite simple, and they may or may not be shown in detail. In most cases, only the outlines of the eyes, nose, and mouth are visible. Although it is technically possible to use facies as a stand-alone charge, it is more commonly seen in conjunction with other charges, such as a helm or crest. When used in this way, facies serves as a type of identification for the wearer of the coat of arms.
