The eavs charge is a charge for the use of facilities, including staffing, equipment and materials, that enable us to offer an electoral registration and voting service. This includes the preparation and distribution of poll cards, the provision of ballot papers, ballot boxes and other necessary polling station equipment, as well as the training of election staff. The charge also covers the cost of publicising elections, including the production and distribution of publicity materials, and the maintenance of the electoral register. In order to recover these costs, we charge a fee to political parties and candidates who contest elections. For example, at the 2019 General Election we charged $5 per elector on the register in each constituency where a party or candidate contested the election. We also charge fees for access to certain electoral data and for copies of electoral registers.
